Bucks earn first win
Deron Washington and Larry Sanders each scored 17 points to help Milwaukee to an 80-66 win over Cleveland in the first game of the final day of the NBA Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavilion.
It was the first win of the event for the Bucks.
Sean Williams added 16 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Jerome Dyson paced the Cavaliers with a game-high 18 points. David Monds added 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Milwaukee led by as many as 20 points and never trailed.
Over at the Thomas & Mack Center, Gary Neal scored 25 points to lead San Antonio to a 78-64 win over Memphis.
DeMarre Carroll had 14 points for the Grizzlies.
Player of the Week
Several players have stepped up this week and made everyone take notice of what they have done at the summer league.
DeMarcus Cousins was a double-double machine, as was JaVale McGee, who also had some of the most SportsCenter worthy moments on big dunks.
J.J. Hickson was really good for Cleveland, and even little-known Jeremy Lin has won over a great deal of fans with his scrappy play.
The name missing from here is John Wall. It is easy to overlook how he played because of all the hype and how much is expected of him as the top pick in the draft.
But make no mistake, Wall was the player of the week.
With Sam Young scoring just three points for the Grizzlies this morning, Wall essentially wrapped up the scoring title for the event.
He is also very likely to lead the summer league in assists.
There’s really not a whole lot more you can ask of a point guard getting his first taste of pro competition.
Letdown
How many people felt as letdown as I did by the British Open?
Louis Oosthuizen lapped the field at St. Andrews and lived out every golfer’s dream by winning the Open Championship there at the home of golf.
He seems to be a perfectly good kid and should have been a great story.
But how many of you, like me, found themselves cheering for someone, anyone, to make a run at him and make things interesting.
Worse yet, I was openly rooting for the poor guy to completely fall apart.
So was everyone I was watching with this morning.
Why can’t we just be happy for someone who is experiencing the moment of their life?
