Lakers win again
Lakers go to 2-0
It wasn’t pretty but the Los Angeles Lakers are 2-0 in NBA Summer League play after defeating Cleveland, 88-82, today at Cox Pavilion.
Adam Morrison continues to log heavy minutes and he made the most of his 32 today, finishing with a game-high 22 points.
The biggest shot of the summer league so far came at the end of the third quarter when the Lakers’ Alan Anderson threw in a runner from about 40 feet out for a 3-point basket to put the Lakers up, 66-57.
Ben McCauley, the rookie free agent forward from North Carolina State who wowed everyone Friday with 24 points and 15 rebounds, wasn’t as effective roday. He finished with 10 points and seven boards.
Packed house
It has only been six games, but for the first time in 2009, Cox Pavilion was full for a summer league game. Credit the Lakers for that as they had lots of support.
They figure to draw another large crowd Monday when they face the Clippers and No. 1 pick Blake Griffin at 5:30 p.m. in the Thomas & Mack Center.
Lookalikes
The Nuggets’ Renaldo Balkman stopped by the summer league today and with his unusual hairdo, he’s easy to spot.
But he may have started a trend. Detroit’s Deron Washington was sporting the same exact look with his hair pulled back and the braids flowing in the back and on top with a headband holding it all together.
“He looks good,” Balkman said of Washington. “I should ask him who does his hair.”
NorCal Showdown next
Up next at 5 p.m., it’s Golden State vs. Sacramento in a battle of Northern California as both teams are seeking a win after losing Friday.
Let’s see how the Kings’ Omri Casspi does today with a game under his belt. He’s not in game shape and he’s trying to get on the same page as his teammates. Expect a better effort from the forward from Israel. Same for the Warriors’ Stephen Curry, who was out of sync at times Friday against the Rockets and should be a little sharper after having played in a game.
