Lawson helps Nuggets stay unbeaten
Former North Carolina star Ty Lawson showed why he is one of the most notable players competing in the summer league as he poured in 28 points and dished out seven assists in Denver’s 100-90 win over New York in the opening game of Day 3 of the NBA Vegas Summer League.
The Nuggets improved to 3-0, while the Knicks were playing for the first time.
Coby Karl added 22 points and seven rebounds for Denver, and Othello Hunter added 19 points.
Toney Douglas had 27 points for New York.
Rough quarter
Bill Walker, formerly of Kansas State at the Boston Celtics, had 14 points for New York. He also committed nine fouls and suffered through a tough fourth quarter.
Walker was called for a flagrant foul early in the final period, then whistled for a technical foul in the closing minutes.
That’s probably not the impression you want to be making on all the NBA coaches here at the summer league, a group that included New York coach Mike D’Antoni.

A lot of other things probably happened earlier in the game. I was not watching.
Like 99 percent of the rest of the world, I was watching the World Cup final down the street.
It was a great game, won in the waning minutes of extra time on a beautiful goal by Andres Iniesta.
The moment was amazing and the world essentially stopped.
