Morrow sets Summer League scoring record
All the NBA scouting experts who strut around the summer league are not always as smart as they think. None of them liked Anthony Morrow enough to draft him in 2008. He’s making them look foolish.
Morrow set the NBA Summer League scoring record today with 47 points in the Golden State Warriors’ 104-84 win over the New Orleans Hornets. He shot 18-for-26 from the field — hitting 7 of 9 3-pointers — and 4-for-4 on free throws.
“I wanted to be aggressive today, and I just caught fire,” Morrow said. “I wanted to get the win. And I’m glad to get the record, don’t get me wrong. It was a fun game.”
Morrow, a 6-foot-5-inch guard from Georgia Tech, signed as a free agent with the Warriors last summer and played in Las Vegas.
“I love playing here,” he said, “and I gave the fans a good show.”
He broke the scoring record of 42 points that was shared by former UNLV star Marcus Banks.
Morrow proved himself last season in the real NBA. He appeared in 67 games, starting 17, and averaged 10.1 points for Golden State. He led the league in 3-point field-goal percentage (46.7) and scored in double figures 28 times.
In his first career start against the Clippers, Morrow scored 37 points — an all-time NBA high by an undrafted player in his rookie season.
