HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $18,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Miles Heir – Ran awful off the claim by Bill Spawr; key vote for me is Joel Rosario takes the call off a moribund race.
1 Coloursoftheglen – Consistent horse for a bottom level claimer; tries hard everytime, saves all the ground inside.
Long Shot – 2 Hammurabi
Race 2 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
4 Cinco de Mario – Named by Paul Reddam in honor of his jockey Mario Gutierrez; reports are he can run a little bit.
2 Tates Humor – Has good speed pedigree by sire Henny Hughes; morning line chalk, watch the tote board for more clues.
Long Shot – 3 Amarish
Race 3 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $40,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
1 Anna You’re Up – Rebounded from a poor race in the Melair two back to win last time; won her only turf start back at Santa Anita.
5 Mia Isabel – Third start off an 8-month hiatus can be her best; big class drop can only help her cause.
Long Shot – 4 Ms Pianist
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Street Rocket – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; been away 9-months for Jeff Mullins.
1 Just Tripping – Another taking the big class drop from MSW to maiden claiming; key vote comes from Garrett Gomez up.
Long Shot – 6 Symphonic Cat
Race 5 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $54,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
4 Buffalo Billy – Gets class relief from two stakes races for this first level allowance; like that Garrett Gomez is up.
8 Empire Way – Ran evenly in his turf debut last time; suspect this is where his future will lie, expect better tonight.
Long Shot – 7 Veter
Race 6 – 7 furlongs, Purse $54,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
4 John Scott – Ran OK returning from a 2 1/2 year sabbatical; 5-YO still has a lot of tread on the seldom used tires.
7 Sequoia Warrior – Difference of night and day his races back east and now in SoCal; looks like a new horse with an upside.
Long Shot – 6 Cyclometer
Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Tiz a Daisy – Ran well in debut when third to the favorite; Marty Jones babies improve a lot second time out.
4 This Means War – No secret when favored in debut and lost by an inch; key will be if she was all in in debut and regresses.
Long Shot – 2 Three Blondes
Race 8 – 1 mile (turf), $150,000 American Handicap, 3-year-olds and up
10 Mr. Commons – Unlucky to lose the Kilroe in a dramatic finish; closer is always at the mercy of pace and traffic.
1 Compari – Will save all the ground in this contentious heat; has tactical speed to be where Rafael Bejarano wants.
Long Shot – 9 Liberian Freighter
Race 9 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Peacenik – Exploded with a monster win last time for Jack Carava; claimed by Craig Dollase and aggressively spotted here.
1 Adam Suances – Another who won well last time out; saves all the ground and fires in the lane.
Long Shot – 5 Private Bounty
Best Bet – 10 Mr. Commons (race 8)
Betfair Hollywood Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/2/$13.60; Long Shots, 7/1/$7.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Betfair Hollywood Park Totals – 287/69/$478.00; Long Shots, 146/23/$221.20; Best Bets, 14/4/$16.00
