Horse Racing, Santa Anita Park, April 8
Today at Santa Anita Park
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds
5 Forest Souvenir – Shortest morning line price in some time at 2/5 odds; looks like lone early speed, the best bet in horse racing.
6 Rino U – Had some issues last time after a few good tries in a row; can finish in a moribund group behind the chalk.
Long Shot – 1 Sunny Superstition
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, 4-year-olds
2 Stormin Proud Papa – Been claimed two races in a row, usually a good sign; tactical speed to sit a decent trip throughout.
4 Cut Fastball – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class; need not be much to be competitive.
Long Shot – 3 Floating Feather
Race 3 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
7 Confucius Junior – Bob Hess adding blinkers on and Garrett Gomez; expect him to settle and make one run.
5 Cook Inlet – Claimed by Doug O’Neill off a maiden claiming win; this horse has shown some ability but a lack of killer instinct.
Long Shot – 4 Baby Blake
Race 4 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, 4-year-olds and up
4 Laser Point – Jeff Mullins barn has been on fire of late; reasonable class rise off a sharp win for $8,000.
1 Personalitary – Speedy sort can sit a good spot off the Laser Point; suspect Joel Rosario will take a hold.
Long Shot – 3 Low Gear Power
Race 5 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $24,000, Starter allowance $12,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
5 Vikkilee – A lot of horses in this field don’t like to win; big rider switch to Joel Rosario for the money shot.
6 Tripped the Light – Key vote is Joel Rosario exits for Vikkilee; Garrett Gomez is an admirable sub.
Long Shot – 8 Mo Cheese
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
10 Chimi Dee – Ran awful as a 1/2 favorite in last; her debut race is fast enough to graduate tonight.
3 Warrens Venedalucy – Woke up with a career best effort in last; repeat race might be good enough to beat these.
Long Shot – 5 Wild Bella
Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $58,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
2 Starry Skies – Sensational rally to get up in the nick of time; had to overcome a rough start with a fast finish.
5 Shezabigbroad –
Long Shot – 3 Darling Dodie
Race 8 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up
4 Iron Joe T – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; need not be much to compete.
3 Skully Gully – Showed some early speed in first race for a price tag; speed and the lead can work in a field this slow.
Long Shot – 10 Cut n’ Deal
Best Bet – 4 Laser Point (race 4)
Santa Anita Park Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 22/7/$34.80; Long Shots, 9/1/$10.20; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.80
Santa Anita Park Totals – 1,031/268/$1,653.00; Long Shots, 520/80/$916.20; Best Bets, 59/24/$85.20
