Today at Santa Anita Park
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $40,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up
5 Shrug – Huge class drop points to an obvious contender; like that Garrett Gomez is taking the call.
4 Via Verde – Ran awful in last off the claim by Mark Glatt; key vote is from Rafael Bejarano, a leap of faith.
Long Shot – 3 Domonation
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
5 Warren’s Jazz Walk – Been second in 3 of last 4 starts; she may inherit the lead as this field is moribund.
6 Warrens China Doll – Didn’t have much of a chance in last after a tardy beginning; Omar Figueroa will add to the price.
Long Shot – 4 Juleps and Roses
Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Allowance, Fillies, 3-year-olds
7 Belle Passe – Joel Rosario had choices and opted for this Peter Eurton filly; remarkable rally to win last out.
2 Starry Skies – Was flattered when Best Present Ever won next out; won despite a slow start, but a fast finish.
Long Shot – 5 Vegas Babe
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds
7 Splendid Fortune – Bob Baffert filly did everything but win last time; his babies improve second time out.
5 Propero – Mike Mitchell FTS gets the services of Joel Rosario; watch the tote board for clues.
Long Shot – 4 Instant Royalty
Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
10 Comin Easy – Like the parking lot post down the hillside turf course; an Unusual Heat should adore the grass.
8 Unbridled Ambition – Logical favorite is strictly the one to beat; favored in debut and came up just short.
Long Shot – 6 Gypsy Friday
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
1 American Lady – One of the best filly sprinters in the country; returns off a non-effort in the Test at Saratoga.
6 Mildly Offensive – Half the field is returning off long vacations; suspect a stalking trip off the favorite.
Long Shot – 2 Miss Radiance
Race 7 – 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
1 Triveni – Seems like Joel Rosario rode half the field last out; he opted to ride for Simon Callaghan, enough for me.
6 Caelis – After two seconds, Peter Miller switches to Garrett Gomez for the money shot; figures to be flying fast late.
Long Shot -3 Born Lucky
Race 8 – 1 mile, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, 4-year-olds and up
1 Lana’s Smile – Sprinter stretching out looks like potential lone early speed; Eswan Flores should hit the gas pedal early.
7 Wild Revenge – Kayla Stra had choices here, that doesn’t happen often; huge class dropper from Julio Canani.
Long Shot – 6 Hammurabi
Best Bet – 1 Triveni (race 7)
Santa Anita Park Sunday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$19.80; Long Shots, 9/2/$18.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
