Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, Oct. 5
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
1 Brazilian Court – Dead late closer sliding down the claiming ladder; will save all the ground and angle out late to rally.
6 Hold Everything – Bob Baffert cull won wire to wire over a moribund group; facing winners for the first time, put him in front again.
Long Shot – 5 Caramuru
Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Vavoom – Skipped the Los Alamitos meet for this spot; showed good speed on the stretch out, good idea in a no passing zone field.
2 Shackleford Banks – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; if anyone will close, it’s this guy.
Long Shot – 9 Fast Mast
Race 3 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
3 Racing for Chasen – Has speed to lead or follow close up; Alonso Quinonez for the suspended rider Victor Espinoza.
8 Champion Risk – Turned in a dud effort first off the claim by Tim Yakteen; her win two back showed much more talent then that.
Long Shot – 5 Anita Sunset
Race 4 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
5 Smart Journey – Frustrating loss last time when perfectly ridden by Rafael Bejarano; may try and sit off of City State tonight.
10 Itsgettinhotinhere – If anyone will close and steal this verdict, it might be this guy; chance is a tepid looking field.
Long Shot – 7 City State
Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Eltoninadress – Ran out of gas late in last so Steve Miyadi drops her down in class; will try to boss these on the front end.
3 Oscillator – Third start off a 5-month hiatus; note the improvement as she appears to be moving in the right direction.
Long Shot – 7 Cayanna
Race 6 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), $100,000 Zuma Beach, 2-year-olds
6 Dallas Skyline – Mike Smith takes over for the injured Kent Desormeaux; this colt is working well, looks to rebound off last.
4 Luck of the Kitten – Midwest invader looks very dangerous in here; Wesley Ward has proven he can win races anywhere except the moon.
Long Shot – 2 Highway Boss
Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Sweet Marini – One thing about the rail is it’s the shortest way home; this filly is pure speed, speed and more speed.
7 Sweet Profit – This filly will likely sit a trip and try to grind late; like the outside post to clock the early speed.
Long Shot – 11 Winning Vision
Race 8 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), $100,000 Surfer Girl, Fillies, 2-year-olds
6 She’s Complete – Doug O’Neill will be on suspension, but not for this race; she has a ton of ability and will be flying late.
5 Her Emmynency – Logical chalk has run two very good races; this figures to be a real cavalry charge to the finish.
Long Shot – 3 Sea Mona
Race 9 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
12 Flexible – Has been working lights out for this second career start; when Rafael Bejarano stays for the finale, look out.
8 Hot Lightning – Debuted as a maiden in a stakes race; gets class relief, blinkers off, and a softer group of horses to face.
Long Shot – 7 Rocko’s Wheel
Best Bet – 1 Sweet Marini (race 7)
