Diego Magdaleno scores knockout in debut at 135 pounds
Diego Magdaleno’s first appearance at 135 pounds was a successful one, as the Las Vegas boxer scored a third-round knockout of Hevinson Herrera on Saturday in their 10-round main event bout at Pharr, Texas.
Magdaleno, 28, has been fighting as a super featherweight for most of his professional career. But he moved up to lightweight for this fight and handled Herrera easily in improving to 27-1 with 11 knockouts. A looping right hand late in the third round sent Herrera (17-10-1) to the canvas, where he was counted out at the 2:53 mark.
“Once I found my range, I knew I could stop him,” Magdaleno said in a text message. “I felt I found that in the third round, so I went in for the finish.”
