Scary jailhouse food sends Mayweather to the corner

As Paris Hilton once said of jailhouse food, "It’s not supposed to be good. It’s jail."

Champion boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. seems to have learned that quickly while serving his three-month sentence for domestic violence at the Clark County Detention Center.

The boxer has thumbed his nose at the cuisine, which was cited in court papers as one of the "inhumane" conditions he faces while incarcerated.

Although a judge didn’t buy the argument in the boxer’s recent quest for house arrest, a weekly menu for inmates at the county jail obtained by the Review-Journal probably won’t appear on any menu at the Four Seasons.

In fact, the menu alone might be enough to scare would-be criminals straight.

The dinner menu includes American ghoulash, farmhouse stew, chili mac, cheeseburger casserole and Mexican stroganoff – dishes normally consisting of leftovers, leftovers and more leftovers.

Aramark, the company contracted to make the food consumed by inmates, declined to discuss its recipes.

Although the ingredients for farmhouse stew and cheeseburger casserole are easy enough to guess, others prove more challenging, especially the marriage of Mexican flavor with Russia’s classic noodle dish.

According to Mr. Food.com, Mexican stroganoff combines egg noodles, salsa, olives, and a meat.

The meals, which Mayweather has mostly skipped, according to his lawyers, add up to an average of about 2,800 calories a day. The boxer chooses to munch on fruits, bread and energy bars bought at the jail commissary for a total of 800 calories a day.

Breakfast includes bologna and dry cereal on Thursdays. On Wednesdays, it’s bologna and streusel coffee cake.

Lunch typically features a lunch meat, such as turkey, ham, or bologna, along with bread and an array of cold salads -creamy coleslaw, carrot coleslaw and coleslaw vinaigrette.

Mayweather, scheduled to be released Aug. 3, can take solace that at least there are no menu items with the add-on word "surprise."
