Two Nevadans advance in Golden Gloves tournament
Las Vegan Jamey Swanson was beaten by New Jersey’s Ian Green in a 165-pound category bout during the first day of the Golden Gloves National Tournament of Champions event at LVH on Monday.
Two Nevadans, Alfonso Olvera and Hasim Rahman, advanced during the opening day of competition featuring nearly 300 boxers from across the country.
Olvera defeated Stephen Twiggs of St. Louis in the 141-pound category and Rahman, a 201-pounder, defeated Ryan Riley of Mid-South.
Action continues today at 6 p.m. and runs through Saturday.
