‘Henderson Bowl’ highlights Saturday prep slate
Rosh Hashanna has pushed the vast majority of the area’s high school football games to Saturday this week. Here’s a look at some of the top matchups and storylines for Week 2.
Basic at Green Valley — When Green Valley opened, these were the only two high schools in Henderson. Though they’re no longer alone in the city, the “Henderson Bowl” remains as exciting and competitive as any rivalry game in the area.
Silverado at Liberty — The defending Sunrise Region champs have lost two games to out-of-state opponents, but may be able to use that game experience to their advantage when they host the massive Skyhawks. Silverado’s offensive line averages 306.8 pounds, and that doesn’t include 295-pound tight end Rohan Walters.
Chaparral at Eldorado — One of the area’s oldest rivalry games, the “Cleat Game” offers excitement for two programs that haven’t had much else to get fired up about in recent years. Chaparral dominated last season, winning 52-14, but expect this one to be closer.
Las Vegas at Foothill — Fans of the passing game, especially bubble screens, shouldn’t miss this one. Foothill quarterback Drew Doxtator is a legitimate Division I prospect, but threw three interceptions in the Falcons opener last week, and will need to be more efficient against the Wildcats.
Hurricane (Utah) at Legacy — Casey Hughes proved to be one of the state’s fastest athletes during track season in the spring. Now the senior gets to see if he can use that speed to be a dominant running back for the Longhorns.
