PRINTING

Using woodblocks carved with Chinese characters, the Chinese invented the process of printing. So well suited to the Chinese language were the blocks that, in China, they weren’t replaced by printing presses until the 19th century.

China invented woodblock printing first on textiles, which began making appearances in China around 220 A.D.
