Packers’ Aaron Rodgers reportedly interested in Raiders

Updated April 29, 2021 - 9:50 pm

Aaron Rodgers reportedly wants out of Green Bay and, according to Pro Football Talk, he lists the Raiders as one of three teams for whom he’d like to play.

Asked about Rodgers’ interest hours before Thursday’s draft, a person close to the Raiders said the team was “weighing all options.”

Officially, the Raiders declined to say anything publicly.

“Aaron Rodgers is under contract with another team, I can’t talk about him,” Raiders general manager Mike Mayock said in his press conference after the draft.

If the Raiders have interest, they would have to put together a compelling offer to pry away the reigning MVP and former Super Bowl champion. And at least for the time being, the Packers have reportedly told people they are not trading Rodgers under any circumstance.

Whatever package the Raiders can put together, it would have to be future draft picks and players from their current roster, And it would have to be incredibly compelling given how the Packers reportedly rejected an offer for Rodgers from the 49ers that started with the third overall pick in the draft with other players and draft assets.

For salary cap reasons, the Packers would prefer not to finalize any trade until after June 1. But the Packers and a trading partner still could make a trade for Rodgers before then.

The Broncos are the other team that Rodgers reportedly has named as a potential landing spot, and it was conspicuous that Denver opted against picking a quarterback in the first round in spite of having chances to reel in both Justin Fields and Mac Jones.
