Sixth-inning error dooms 51s in 4-3 loss at El Paso

Former 51s outfielder Jason Lane scored the decisive run for El Paso on a fielding error by Las Vegas left fielder Cesar Puello in the sixth inning of the 51s’ 4-3 loss to the Chihuahuas on Friday night in El Paso, Texas.

Lane drew a two-out walk from Zack Thornton and scored when Puello dropped a fly ball by Jace Peterson to give El Paso a 4-2 lead.

Las Vegas (34-21) rallied for a run in the ninth, when Daniel Muno doubled with two outs and Josh Satin, who had three hits, followed with a triple. Andrew Brown was then hit by a pitch before Zach Lutz grounded into a force at second.

Brown belted a solo homer — his team-leading 12th — in the first inning, when the 51s left the bases loaded. Las Vegas, which has lost 10 of 13, left 10 men on base and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

The Chihuahuas (26-30) scored three in the second off Las Vegas starter Giancarlo Alvarado (1-2). Lane (5-4), who switched to pitcher after leaving the 51s, allowed two runs on six hits in six innings, with six strikeouts and one walk.
