ONLY IN CHINA

What you would never find in the United States: A few colleagues and I took a taxi from men’s volleyball at Capital Indoor Stadium to men’s basketball at Wukesong Indoor Stadium. It was about a 10-mile drive. Total cost: just under $4 American. Back home, we would have paid that much to make the guy stop and pick us up.

What you wouldn’t find, Part II: Between games, countless workers began cleaning the glass partitions in front of seats around the arena. Talk about looking out for the hoop fans.

What you wouldn’t find, Part III: Prior to teams taking the floor for warmups, a group called the technical officials (scorer, timer, various other statisticians) dressed in like-colored blue blazers are introduced and walk to their seats on the floor to cheers and music.

What you wouldn’t find, Part IV: A post-game news conference moderator telling Team USA member Chris Bosh his time for answering questions had ended: “Bosh done. Take rest.”
