Air Force takes big lead at halftime

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — Air Force gained 349 yards, including 232 rushing, to take a commanding 24-3 halftime lead over UNLV.

The Falcons scored all three touchdowns on drives of at least 80 yards. They had three such drives entering this game.

Tailback Asher Clark leads the Falcons with 113 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Quarterback Tim Jefferson is 7 of 11 for 117 yards.

UNLV quarterback Omar Clayton is 3 of 8 with a costly interception. The Rebels drove to Air Force’s 11-yard line late in the first half, but Clayton threw into double coverage into the end zone and was intercepted by safety Chris Thomas.

Instead of cutting the lead to 17-10 and taking some momentum into halftime, the Rebels handed it right back to the Falcons, who scored with 36 seconds left on tailback Savier Stephens’ 10-yard run.

THIS AND THAT

UNLV wide receiver Ryan Wolfe has one catch for 12 yards to tie for 12th place on the NCAA’s career receptions list with 280. … Senior Mike Donato started in place of freshman Jason Heath at left guard. No reason was given.
