Finkelstein claims medalist honors, leads UNLV into NCAA Championship
Dana Finkelstein overcame a one-stroke deficit Saturday and stormed to medalist honors at the NCAA St. George Regional in St. George, Utah, leading the UNLV women’s golf team to a fourth-place finish and a berth in the NCAA Championship.
Finkelstein, a senior, shot 4-under-par 67 in the final round to finish at 2-under 211, five strokes ahead of her nearest competitor in the 18-team, 96-player field.
She is the third golfer in the 14-year history of the program to win a regional. The victory was Finkelstein’s third of the season and fifth of her career, the most in program history.
Southern California won the team competition at 28-over 880 and was followed by Stanford (886), Arkansas (892), UNLV (895), Virginia (898) and California (900). The top six teams advance to the NCAA Championship, scheduled for May 22 to 27 in Bradenton, Fla.
The Rebels advanced to the NCAA Championship for the fourth time. Finkelstein will be joined by freshman Mackenzie Raim, who tied for 20th at the regional at 11-over 224, sophomore Avery French (tied for 46th, 230), freshman Harley Dubsky (tied for 50th, 231) and senior Mayko Chwen Wang (tied for 63rd, 233).
