Koelbaek helps women’s golfers finish sixth

The UNLV women's golf team shot 1-under-par 287 Wednesday in the final round of its Spring Invitational at Boulder Creek Golf Club, remaining in sixth place in the 18-team tournament.

Freshman Therese Koelbaek carded a third straight 1-under 71 to finish at 3-under 213, tied for fifth individually. That helped UNLV post a 9-over 873 total, four shots out of third place and 14 behind Washington State and Brigham Young, who tied for first at 5-under 859.

Oregon's Cathryn Bristow shot 2-under 70 in the final round to take medalist honors with an 8-under 208 total. Texas Tech's Ulrika van Niekirk shot 69 to finish second at 210.

UNLV's Natasha Krishna (72) tied for 22nd at 2-over 218, and Alejandra Guacaneme (71) and Kasi Lee (73) tied for 30th at 221 to round out the Rebels' team score.

• WOMEN'S TENNIS -- UNLV, ranked 42nd, lost to No. 16 Florida State 7-0 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Seminoles took two of three doubles matches for the first point, then swept the singles, though the Rebels (8-4) pushed Florida State to three sets in three matches.

Elena Gantcheva, ranked 28th, lost the first set to No. 73 Lauren Macfarlane 7-6, came back to win the second set 4-6, but lost a super-tiebreaker 10-7 at No. 1 singles.

• MEN'S TENNIS -- UNLV (5-5), which last year upset Mississippi State, couldn't quite pull it off twice in a row, losing to the 39th-ranked Bulldogs 4-3 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

UNLV's Elliot Wronski, ranked 93rd, knocked off No. 26 Ivan Bjelica 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (2) at No. 1 singles.
