Koloskie pursues AD job at UC Riverside
UNLV deputy athletic director Jerry Koloskie, who has worked in the Rebels’ athletic department since 1982, will interview Monday for UC Riverside’s soon-to-be vacant AD position.
Koloskie said working again in the Big West Conference, where UNLV was a member from 1982 to 1996, and the opportunity to become an athletic director intrigued him.
“I’ve been in Division I athletics for a lot of years, and I have a lot of experience and I bring a lot to the table,” Koloskie said Friday.
Koloskie hoped to become UNLV’s AD when Mike Hamrick left in August 2009 for Marshall. Though Koloskie took over as interim AD, UNLV filled the position by hiring Jim Livengood in December of that year.
“This has nothing to do with UNLV,” Koloskie said of pursuing the Riverside job. “I really enjoy working with Jim Livengood. He’s really a good athletic director, and he’s done a lot of good things in a short period of time. I have a lot of respect for him.”
Koloskie is one of four finalists, according to the Riverside (Calif.) Press Enterprise, to replace Stan Morrison, who retires Aug. 15. But Koloskie wouldn’t say for sure whether he would accept the job if it was offered to him.
“That’s why I’m going through the interview process,” he said. “I wouldn’t have applied for it if I wasn’t genuinely interested. If I’m a fit for them, and they in turn are a fit for me, it’s definitely something I will entertain.”
