Local colleges roundup: UNLV baseball wins in 17th inning

Erik VanMeetren scored on a throwing error with one out in the 17th inning to give UNLV a 9-8 baseball victory over San Diego State at Wilson Stadium. The Rebels (25-12, 9-7 Mountain West) loaded the bases on three walks before the error on a ball hit by T.J. White.

The UNLV women’s tennis team defeated Colorado State 4-1 in Fort Collins, Colo., for its fifth straight victory.

The match was moved indoors because of snow, and the Rebels (15-6, 5-1 Mountain West) responded by winning the doubles point, then three of four in singles. Because of the weather, the match was stopped when a team reached four points.

The College of Southern Nevada baseball team lost its third straight game, falling to Southern Idaho 5-2 in Twin Falls to drop to 30-12 overall and 18-7 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference. The second game of the doubleheader was suspended by rain in the bottom of the seventh inning with CSN leading 3-2 and will be completed today.

The CSN softball team lost to host Salt Lake, ranked sixth in the nation, 5-2 and 6-3. The Coyotes fell to 24-24 and 17-20 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
