Men’s golf takes third in tourney

The UNLV men's golf team shot 5-over-par 293 Sunday in the final round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, taking third in the 19-team field at Air Force Academy, Colo.
Colorado State won the event, posting a 9-under 855 total, with its top four golfers finishing in the top 13. Utah was second at 857, and UNLV was a close third at 860.
Derek Ernst led the Rebels, shooting even-par 72 for a 3-under 213 total to tie for seventh. Northern Colorado's Steve Bidne (69) won the individual title at 10-under 206.
• WOMEN'S GOLF -- The UNLV women's golf team shot 8-over 300 in the final round to tie for third place at the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
Pepperdine fired an 8-under 284 to win the 18-team tournament with a 17-under 859 total. Host New Mexico was second, seven shots back, followed by UNLV and TCU at 883.
Therese Koelbaek (2-over 75) led the Rebels, tying for ninth at 2-under 217. Oregon's Kendra Little shot 5-under 68 to take the individual title at 207.
• MEN'S SOCCER -- UNLV beat Florida Gulf Coast 3-2 at Johann Memorial Field.
The Rebels (4-1-2) scored all three of their goals in the first half, with Nick Marshall scoring twice and Zach Kupfer netting the first goal of the game.
• WOMEN'S SOCCER -- UNLV lost to Saint Mary's 1-0 in San Francisco.
The Gaels' Jessica Menzhuber scored on a free kick in the 69th minute.
UNLV fell to 2-3-4.
