No. 21 UNLV baseball holds on to beat Cal State Bakersfield
The UNLV baseball team, playing its first game in 10 years as a ranked squad, held off host Cal State-Bakersfield 8-6 on Tuesday night. The Rebels, ranked 21st by Baseball America, stretched their winning streak to 10 games.
UNLV (14-3), coming off a three-game road sweep of then-No. 9 Stanford, led 8-0 before allowing the Roadrunners (10-6) to climb back in with a six-run eighth inning.
Brandon Bayardi paced UNLV, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs, including the Rebels’ first home run of the season.
Earlier Tuesday, UNLV was named CollegeBaseballInsider.com’s team of the week.
■ UNLV WOMEN’S TENNIS — The Rebels edged Washington State 4-3 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex for their sixth straight win.
UNLV (9-3) took two of three doubles matches for the first point, then split the six singles matches. Aleksandra Josifoska clinched the victory at No. 1 singles by rallying to beat Liudila Vasilieva, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
UNLV also got singles wins from Lucia Batta (No. 2) and Iren Kotseva (No. 6).
■ CSN SOFTBALL — The College of Southern Nevada swept North Platte (Neb.) Community College 7-1 and 4-1 at the Russell Road Recreation Complex. Mikela Manewa went 5-for-7 with four RBIs on the day, including a solo homer in the first game, and Kalei Adams had a two-run homer in the opener for the Coyotes (19-12).
