Rebel women’s golf second at MWC tourney

The UNLV women’s golf team shot the low round of the tournament Sunday at the Mountain West Conference Championship, posting a 4-over 292 in the final round to jump from fourth to second at Litchfield Park, Ariz.

Texas Christian (301) took the title in the three-round event at 40-over 904, followed by the Rebels at 909 and San Diego State at 911.

Freshman Dana Finkelstein led UNLV’s charge, shooting 1-under 71 to tie for third at 4-over 220. TCU’s Sanna Nuutinen and San Diego State’s Christine Wong tied at 1-over 217, with Nuutinen winning a playoff after five holes to take the individual title.

UNLV’s Bethany Calvo (72) finished ninth. Charlotte Brooks (74) and Katerina Prorokova (75) rounded out UNLV’s final-round score.

The Rebels now await the announcement of the NCAA regional fields on April 30.

■ BASEBALL – UNLV completed a three-game sweep of Air Force, scoring in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 5-4 victory at Wilson Stadium.

Brandon Bayardi’s sacrifice fly scored T.J. White from third with the winning run for the Rebels (20-21, 5-10 Mountain West Conference). Reliever Zack Hartman got the win after retiring Air Force in order in the top of the ninth.
