Rebels still on course when lightning halts play in NCAA women’s golf championships
The weather was in charge during Friday’s opening round of the NCAA women’s golf championship as lightning in the area caused play to be stopped twice and ultimately suspended at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
UNLV was still on the course with three of its players trying to finish their first round before the call for play to be halted came at 4:15 p.m. PDT. The Rebels were in 13th place at 17-over par when the stoppage was announced and will resume play Saturday morning.
Freshman Mackenzie Raim was 1-over with one hole to play and senior Dana Finkelstein was 3-over with two holes remaining. Freshman Harley Dubsky was 7-over with two holes left. The two players who finished their round were senior Mayko Chwen Wang, who came in with a 6-over 78 and sophomore Avery French, who had a 13-over 85 and whose score will not count against the team’s first-round total when UNLV completes its opening round.
Stanford was atop the leaderboard at 3-over when play was halted. Duke was two shots back followed by Baylor at 7-over.
