UNLV baseball falls to TCU

After an early pitching duel, Texas Christian scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning Friday to take control in a 6-2 victory over the UNLV baseball team at Wilson Stadium.

The Rebels’ Matt Hutchison (1-2) had allowed just one unearned run on three hits through six innings before the Horned Frogs (14-10, 2-2 Mountain West Conference) broke through with five hits in the seventh.

TCU’s Tyler Lockwood (2-0) pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on eight hits against UNLV (10-12, 2-2).

• UNLV MEN’S TENNIS — The Rebels improved to 2-0 in Mountain West Conference play with a 7-0 victory over Air Force at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

UNLV (8-8) got singles victories from Luca Barlocchi, Wesley Burrows, David Campbell, Rony Yeghnazary, Bryan Miller and Andrew Giuffrida.

• UNLV WOMEN’S TENNIS — The 62nd-ranked Rebels lost their Mountain West Conference opener 4-0 to No. 47 Brigham Young in Provo, Utah.

UNLV (8-7) lost its fourth straight match — all to opponents ranked in the top 50.

• UNLV SWIMMING — The Rebels’ 800-yard freestyle relay team placed 17th at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Federal Way, Wash.

The team of Devin Phillips, Johan Claar, Tamas Bosnyak and Calan Eldridge finished in 6 minutes, 40.16 seconds and missed All-America honorable mention by four one-hundredths of a second.

Jonas Andersson placed 26th in the 100 breaststroke in 54.22 seconds.

• CSN BASEBALL — The Coyotes split a doubleheader with the College of Southern Idaho at Morse Stadium, winning 13-1 before losing, 6-2.

In the first game, Tyler Lavigne (4-0) pitched a four-hit complete game and hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for CSN (23-10, 12-6 Scenic West Athletic Conference).

• CSN SOFTBALL — The Coyotes swept a doubleheader against Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely, Colo., winning 3-0 in 11 innings and 13-0 in five innings.

Mandy Tapia (10-8) and Christina Jones (10-4) both pitched complete games for CSN (20-12, 15-7 SWAC).
