UNLV men win 10th conference swimming championship in 11 years

UNLV captured its 10th men’s swimming and diving conference title in 11 years, clinching the Western Athletic Conference crown on the final event of the championships Saturday in San Antonio.
Tom Paco-Pedroni, Dillon Virva, Forrest Beesley and Samuel Lameynardie won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 2 minutes, 53.05 seconds to wrap up the title, giving the Rebels 715.5 points. Air Force was second (705.5) and Wyoming third (691.5) in the seven-team field.
UNLV had 13 top-eight performers, including Henrique Machado, who set WAC and UNLV records with his 1:43.41 effort in the 200 backstroke. Avi Cohen won the 200 butterfly in 1:45.17.
Virva was named the conference’s swimmer of the year and UNLV’s Jim Reitz the coach of the year.
