UNLV rallies for 3-2 Mountain West baseball win at San Diego State

Edgar Montes capped an eight-pitch at-bat with a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning, sending UNLV to a 3-2 win over San Diego State in a Mountain West baseball game Saturday in San Diego.
Payton Squier led off the eighth by drawing a walk. One out later, Montes connected off reliever Brian Heldman (3-1) for the decisive margin.
Montes also had a double, and Erik VanMeetren had a double and a single for the Rebels (21-24, 7-16), who matched the Aztecs’ eight hits.
VanMeetren scored UNLV’s first run on a sixth-inning sacrifice fly by his younger brother A.J.
Rebels starter D.J. Myers went five innings and gave up two runs on five hits and two walks and struck out three. Zack Hartman (4-1), the second of three UNLV relievers, got the win with two shutout innings.
Mark Seyler gave up two runs on six hits and two walks and struck out six in seven innings for San Diego State (31-17, 17-9).
