UNLV roundup: Softball handles Portland State, 5-2
Amanda Oliveto took a no-hitter into the seventh inning for the UNLV softball team (4-3) in a 5-2 victory Friday over Portland State (3-5) in the Easton Desert Classic at Eller Media Stadium.
The Rebels scored all their runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Jaexie Balilea. Stefany Valentino went 3-for-4 with a double.
UNLV continues the tournament today against Utah Valley at 3:45 p.m. and Ohio at 6 p.m.
In other UNLV news:
■ The men’s tennis team (5-1) suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Brigham Young 5-0 at Provo, Utah.
The Rebels take on Utah at 11 a.m. today at Salt Lake City.
■ The women’s tennis team (4-3) swept Southern Utah 7-0 to salvage a split after falling to San Jose State 4-3 to start the day at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
UNLV hosts Brigham Young next Friday.
■ The women’s soccer team announced an 11-player recruiting class, including defender Nicole Westover of Green Valley High School, forward Dakota Blazak of Arbor View High and midfielder Courtney Anderson of Silverado High.
