UNLV’s Finkelstein shoots hole-in-one at NCAA championships
UNLV junior Dana Finkelstein recorded a hole-in-one during her opening round Tuesday at the NCAA women’s golf championships in Tulsa, Okla. But Finkelstein also had seven bogeys on her card and finished with a 5-over 75 at the par-70 Tulsa Country Club.
Finkelstein, who was playing as an individual, was already 5-over on the day when she teed off at the 191-yard par-3 No. 6. Her tee shot landed on the green and rolled into the cup for the ace, dropping her to 3-under with three holes to play. But she made bogey on two of the final three holes to finish with a 75, putting her in a tie for 41st place with 12 others. Southern California’s Doris Chen, Stanford’s Lauren Kim and Denver’s Tonje Daffinrud all share the individual first-round lead at 3-under 67. Oklahoma’s Alexandra Kaui, who starred at Green Valley High School, is fourth after a 2-under 68.
In the team competition, Oklahoma holds a three-shot lead over UCLA heading into today’s second round. The Sooners, despite Kaui’s 68, were 8-over 288.
