DA’s office files one felony charge against Willis

The Clark County District Attorney’s Office has filed a felony charge of battery/domestic violence-strangulation against UNLV basketball star Tre’Von Willis for an incident that occurred last week.

A Henderson police report accused Willis, 22, of trying to choke Skye Sanders, 28, in the early morning hours of June 29 while they were arguing in her apartment. Willis also allegedly took Sanders’ cell phone when she threatened to call police.

The strangulation count was one of two police charges recommended to the DA’s office. A charge of grand larceny was not filed because proving the cell phone is worth the minimum felony amount of $250 would be difficult.

Willis is scheduled to appear in Henderson Justice Court on Aug. 3.

Neither UNLV’s administration nor coach Lon Kruger has disciplined Willis. Kruger previously indicated that any such decisions will be made when Willis’ legal status is settled.

The Rebels play exhibitions Nov. 2 and Nov. 9 and open the season Nov. 12 against UC Riverside at the Thomas & Mack Center.

■ NOTE — Mike Moser, who announced this year that he was transferring from UCLA to UNLV, enrolled in classes and has officially joined the team, Kruger said.

Moser, a 6-foot-8 inch, 195-pound forward, appeared in 15 of 32 games as a freshman with the Bruins last season. He must sit out this season because of NCAA transfer rules and will be eligible to play for the Rebels in the 2011-12 season.
