Fresno State tops Lady Rebels

The Fresno State women’s basketball team held UNLV to five first-half field goals en route to a 65-42 victory Friday night at Cox Pavilion.

The Lady Rebels (7-6), who shot a season-low 31.5 percent (17-for-54), got within 15-12 with 9:11 left in the first half on a jumper by India Chaney.

That was UNLV’s final field goal of the opening half as the Lady Bulldogs (8-4) then began a 13-0 run. The Lady Rebels were outscored 22-3 to close the half and trailed 37-15 at intermission.

Fresno State’s lead remained between 20 and 24 points for the rest of the game.

Marnique Arnold scored 12 points, Bailey Amundsen 11 and Jaleesa Ross 10 for the Lady Bulldogs, who shot 37.5 percent (27-for-72). They shot 9-for-38 on 3-pointers in establishing a Cox Pavilion women’s record for 3-point attempts in a game, breaking UNLV’s mark of 34 set Dec. 19, 2004.

Shamela Hampton had 12 points and 11 rebounds, Chaney 12 points and Erica Helms 10 points for the Lady Rebels, who were outrebounded 52-35.
