Lady Rebels’ win streak halted at CSU
Kim Mestdagh scored 22 points, and Colorado State shot 52.9 percent from the field to hand UNLV a 74-62 defeat Wednesday in a Mountain West Conference women’s basketball game at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo., ending the Lady Rebels’ four-game winning streak.
UNLV (17-6, 5-2) rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit to pull within 50-47 with 11:01 remaining before the Rams (9-13, 5-2) went on a 10-0 run to put the game away.
Kelli Thompson scored 20 points to pace the Lady Rebels but was the only UNLV player to break double figures. UNLV shot 38.1 percent from the floor and could not offset the accuracy of the Rams, who connected on five of their first six shots.
Colorado State never trailed, leading by as many as 15 points at 31-16 three minutes before halftime. Megan Heimstra and LaDeyah Forte scored 13 points each for the Rams, who pulled into a second-place tie with UNLV in the Mountain West standings.
It was the fourth consecutive loss in Fort Collins for the Lady Rebels, who will resume conference play against Wyoming at 4 p.m. Saturday at Cox Pavilion.
