UNLV women’s job drawing interest

UNLV athletic director Mike Hamrick isn't having a difficult time attracting interest for the vacant women's basketball head coaching job.

Hamrick said Thursday UNLV has received more than 130 applications. That includes about 30 from head coaches at various collegiate levels as well as "about a half-dozen" WNBA assistants.

He did not release the names to preserve the applicants' confidentiality.

"It's apparent this job is perceived as an outstanding college basketball job because of the number and quality of applicants," Hamrick said.

Hamrick, senior associate athletic director Jerry Koloskie and senior woman administrator Lisa Kelleher leave today to conduct preliminary interviews with 12 to 16 candidates at the women's Final Four, which is Sunday and Tuesday in Tampa, Fla.

The remaining candidates are expected to interview on campus next week.

Hamrick said he hopes to hire a coach soon after that.

UNLV is looking for its first coach in a decade. Regina Miller, who coached for 10 seasons, was fired March 14. She was 172-125 and posted back-to-back losing seasons, including 8-22 this season.
