5 Utah State players to watch against UNLV
Five Utah State players to watch when the UNLV football team plays the Aggies at 3 p.m. Saturday at Sam Boyd Stadium:
1. Cornerback Jalen Davis, senior. Selected to The Associated Press’ mid-season All-America team, the only Group of Five player to be honored on the first team. Tied for first nationally with five interceptions, and his 11 pass defenses are 11th. Also has returned three interceptions for touchdowns.
2. Quarterback Kent Myers, senior. The dual-threat quarterback is seventh all time at Utah State with 6,047 yards passing, fifth with 38 TD passes and fourth with 7,408 yards of total offense. This season, he has completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 1,199 yards and seven touchdowns, and has rushed for 246 yards and five scores.
3. Quarterback DJ Nelson, junior. Has made an impact on special teams, scoring touchdowns the past two weeks. Has blocked two punts this season, returning one 43 yards for a touchdown. His other special teams score came on a 4-yard run on a fake field goal.
4. Linebacker Suli Tamaivena, junior. Has put together double-digit tackle games each of the past three games. Also leads the Aggies with 68 tackles for the season, which includes four for loss and two sacks. Also has recovered two fumbles.
5. Kicker Dominik Eberle, sopohomore. Has made 13 of 14 field goals, with the only missed coming on a blocked 38-yard attempt. Has made all five kicks from 40 yards and beyond, with a long of 52.
