The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0-liter sport utility vehicle at Findlay Volkswagen in the Valley Automall is considered an excellent vehicle for the multifaceted terrain of Southern Nevada. With front-wheel drive, the Tiguan also has plenty of room for young families on the go.
So when Joyce Zhang was involved in 11-car chain reaction wreck in September, she and husband, Zhi, immediately started researching the market for the all-new Tiguan.
The 2017 Tiguan suits the Zhang family perfectly. Like his wife, Zhi Zhang also works on the Strip and drives the four-cylinder Tiguan to work.
“On a range of zero to 10, it’s almost a 10,” Joyce Zhang said. “I like the acceleration of the Tiguan. When I need to step on the gas, there is plenty of horsepower. There is no problem when I need horsepower.”
The ride, too, suits the family. With independent suspension, passengers do not notice the bumps.
The family-favorite Tiguan’s safety features include front and side airbag supplemental restraint systems for driver and front passenger, three-point safety belts and anti-lock braking system with disc brakes.
The interior is highlighted by climactic manual climate control, heated front seats, center console with cup holders and storage, power windows and electric parking brake.
The technology package has composition media touchscreen AM/FM HD radio and CD that is highlighted by an eight-speaker sound system.
“The first thing I noticed about the Tiguan was the ride,” Joyce Zhang said. “It’s smooth and also very quiet. It’s a very reliable car.”
Handling also is a big plus.
“You can tell right away that the Tiguan handles well,” she said. “You don’t have to fight the steering wheel at all. It’s a very stable car.”
The family of four, which includes 7-year-old twins, hasn’t been on any long trips yet but did visit Willow Beach south of Boulder Dam not long after getting the Tiguan. With a peppy four-cylinder engine that generates combined fuel mileage of 20 city and 24 highway, it also features excellent fuel economy.
“We’re planning to go see the Valley of Fire and Zion National Park in Southern Utah,” Joyce Zhang said. “We all love to hike and camp, so the Tiguan fits our needs perfectly. My husband loves driving the car.”
With a roof rack, the Tiguan is ready for the outdoors.
“The Tiguan is a well-built vehicle,” said Zhang, “The kids love the Tiguan, too, and especially like its exterior. I feel very comfortable with my family in the Tiguan.”
The Zhang’s Tiguan came with a long list of amenities including 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, electric stability control and intelligent crash response system.
The couple also lauded the service provided by Findlay Volkswagen, which is headed by general manager Doug Fleming.
“The dealership’s staff was very helpful and went over everything with us,” Joyce Zhang said. “They were very helpful. They didn’t push us and they made us feel comfortable.”
