The Patriots opened as 7-point favorites over the Chiefs in April and the line moved to 10 in August before dipping to 8½ on Thursday afternoon at the Westgate, Station Casinos and CG Technology sports books.
Kansas City plays at New England at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the NFL season opener, which will be televised on KSNV-3 (NBC).
New England is holding steady at 9 at other spots in Las Vegas, including William Hill sports books, for the game at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
“We’ve been at 9 forever. It’s all Patriots money at 9, and there’s tons of teasers and money-line parlays on New England,” William Hill sports book director Nick Bogdanovich said. “They’re in love with New England out here. They’re betting them over their season wins and futures. They want to anoint this team the best team of all time.”
The total is 48½. The Patriots are minus-475 on the money line, and the Chiefs are plus-380 to win the game outright.
“I give the Chiefs a shot,” Bogdanovich said. “I give them a big shot.”
In addition to New England’s historic comeback to win its fifth Super Bowl, the Patriots are coming off a historic 16-3 record against the spread last season that matched the 1989 San Francisco 49ers for best ATS record ever.
New England is 18-6-2 ATS in its past 26 home games and 18-7-2 ATS in its past 27 against the AFC. The Chiefs are 3-7 ATS in their past 10 meetings.
