Spit led to deadly confrontation at Las Vegas 7-Eleven

The deadly Sunday night confrontation inside a Las Vegas 7-Eleven started when David Barron spit on the store’s walkway, police documents show.

About 11:40 p.m., Barron, the 24-year-old man who was killed, entered the 4510 Vegas Valley Drive store for the second time that night with Eric Ball and Richard Ball. The Ball brothers were arrested Monday on charges of attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary.

Police said Barron and Eric Ball had been in a physical altercation with store owner Harjit Dhillon and an employee earlier in the night after Barron spat near the store’s entrance.

Barron and the Ball brothers, armed with a machete, brass knuckles, two tactical knives and a kitchen knife, demanded they “wanted their stuff back” when they returned, Eric Ball’s arrest report showed.

When the Ball brothers jumped behind the checkout counter, the store owner attempted to call police and shot a handgun once in the air, the report said.

Dhillon shot several times at Barron, who was punching him, the report said. Barron was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Metropolitan Police Department homicide Lt. Dan McGrath said Dhillon was briefly detained but has not been charged. McGrath said the Clark County district attorney’s office will review the case and discuss potential charges against Dhillon.

The death marks the 134th homicide in Clark County this year and the 112th homicide investigated by Metro.
