Body found in desert area of Henderson

Updated September 29, 2017 - 6:27 pm

A body in an area of open desert in Henderson was recovered Friday more than four hours after it had been found.

The Metropolitan Police Department received reports of the body about 8 a.m. The body was found about 2 miles south of the intersection of East Horizon Ridge Parkway and Ray Boulevard, police spokesman Larry Hadfield said. At about 12:30 p.m., the body had been recovered by search and rescue personnel with the Police Department.

Hadfield said another agency was taking the lead on the investigation, but it wasn’t immediately clear whose jurisdiction the case falls under. The desert area where the body was found is owned by the Bureau of Land Management.

“It looks like we were just assisting with the recovery,” Hadfield added.

The Clark County coroner’s office will identify the person once next of kin has been notified.
