Dangerous, drunken swim at Hoover Dam gets tourist arrested

A dangerous, drunken swim at Hoover Dam ended with the arrest of a tourist.

Arron Hughes, 28, of Wales, climbed down the rocks Aug. 10 and swam across the reservoir along the upstream side.

It was reportedly a quasi-dare from his friends during a bachelor party.

Officers were waiting on the other side. He was released with a citation and a $330 fine.

Authorities say the illegal act could have killed Hughes if he had gotten pulled under by the dam intakes.
