Las Vegas New Year’s celebration will be ‘America’s Party’

Updated December 21, 2017 - 2:16 pm

What has 12 bands, more than 80,000 firework devices and some 330,000 guests from all over the world?

“America’s Party” 2018.

Las Vegas’ recurring New Year’s Eve bash is back and better than ever, officials say. Specifics for the event, which occurs on the Strip and in Downtown Las Vegas, were unveiled Thursday at Fashion Show mall.

“No one does it better than Vegas,” Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Chairman Lawrence Weekly said. “Some people get great pride in dropping a ball. But guess what? We take great pride in throwing America’s Party.”

For the 11th year in a row Fireworks By Grucci is orchestrating the launching of fireworks across seven hotel-casino rooftops stretching from the Stratosphere to the MGM Grand.

The theme of the display is Midnight in Vegas.

Beginning at midnight, pyrotechnics will light up the Las Vegas skyline for eight minutes. The explosions will be choreographed to songs by artists including Eric Clapton, Judas Priest and Bruce Springsteen.

The soundtrack can be heard live on radio stations KOMP 92.3 and 97.1 The Point.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman said the city and Clark County are ready to welcome international travelers to celebrate alongside locals.

“You feel you’re part of a family here,” she said. “Everything is at your fingertips. The best food, the best shopping, the best bands.”

The LVCVA estimates the celebration will generate more than $420 million for the Southern Nevada economy.

Pre-sale tickets for “America’s Party Downtown” are on sale now for $35 plus taxes and fees. Tickets can be bought at the SlotZilla takeoff tower on Fremont Street online at VegasExperience.com.
