The move comes as more and more health-care companies attempt to lessen medical expenses by working with middlemen like Express Scripts. Express is the largest remaining independent drug middleman, providing customers with pharmacy benefit management services. According to Bloomberg, Cigna will cover roughly $15 billion in Express’s debt, putting the total value of the deal at $69.6 billion.
