Tarkanian Girls: Finishing kick sends Liberty into Ruby Division final

Journie Augmon scored six of her 10 points during a game-ending 12-0 run to lift Liberty’s girls basketball team to a 44-30 win over Springville (Utah) in the Ruby Division semifinals of the Tarkanian Classic at Durango on Friday.

The Patriots started slowly, trailing 12-4 midway through the first half before Shaleina Bird scored seven points in a 13-2 run that gave Liberty the lead.

Liberty grabbed the lead for good on Taysia Tovia’s basket with less than 10 minutes to play, and the Patriots pulled away in the final three minutes.

Joy Watkins led all scorers with 11 points for Liberty, and Bird scored nine.

Kallysta Strong led Springville with 10 points.

Valor Christian (Colo.) 54, Bishop Gorman 45 — At Durango, 6-foot, 2-inch freshman Raegan Beers poured in 27 points to help the Eagles top the Gaels in a Diamond Division semifinal.

Bentleigh Hoskins and Georgia Ohiaeri each had 11 points for Gorman, which got 10 points from Olivia Smith.

Shadow Ridge 53, Imperial (Calif.) 27 — At Liberty, Chloe Carter had 10 points as the Mustangs defeated the Tigers in a Premier Division semifinal.

Christina Thames added 10 points for Shadow Ridge, which will play for the Premier Division title at 10:40 a.m. Saturday at Durango.

Denver East (Colo.) 38, Coronado 30 — At Durango, Lilly Cleveland scored 15 points to help the Angels rally from an early deficit to beat the Cougars in a Ruby Division game.

Coronado grabbed a 13-5 lead less than seven minutes into the game, but the Angels closed the half on a 9-0 run and used an 11-1 run in the early stages of the second half to begin to put the game away.

Sade Williams led Coronado with 12 points.

North Eugene (Ore.) 55, Cheyenne 47 — At Liberty, the Highlanders rallied past the Desert Shields in a Premier Division game.

Autumn Shulkusky and Malia Highler both finished with 13 for Cheyenne.

Democracy Prep 50, Las Vegas 49 — At Liberty, Sharmayne Finley had 37 points to help lead the Blue Knights over the Wildcats in a Premier Division game.

Xeda Regala had 17 points, and Cortney Stark scored 12 for Las Vegas.

Mojave 64, Durango 55 — At Liberty, Alecia Kelly had 26 points to lead the Rattlers to victory over the Trailblazers in a Premier Division game.

Essence McRae had 11 points for Mojave.

Erica Stiles had 19 points for Durango.

George Washington (Colo.) 37, Western 27 — At Liberty, the Patriots topped the Warriors in a Premier Division game.

Adrianna Jones had 11 points for Western.

Jordan (Utah) 52, Basic 28 — At Liberty, the Beetdiggers rolled past the Wolves in a Premier Division game.

Sierra McLean had eight points to lead Basic.

Desert Hills (Utah) 55, Sierra Vista 44 — At Liberty, the Thunder rolled past the Mountain Lions in a Premier Division game.

Green Valley 49, Pine View (Utah) 36 — At Liberty, the Gators topped the panthers in a Ruby Division game.

Shania Johnson-Harper led Sierra Vista with 14 points.
