PAHRUMP VALLEY
League: Class 3A Sunset
Head coach: Joe Clayton, sixth season (19-29)
2017 record: 4-6 (2-3 Sunset, fourth)
Returning starters: Seven offense, eight defense
Base offensive set: Jet offense
Base defensive set: Multiple
Top offensive players: RB Nico Velasquez (Sr.); RB Dee Brown (Sr.); T Zach Trieb (Sr.); T Brandon Bunker (Sr.)
Top defensive players: LB Anthony Peralta (Jr.); DT Armani McGhee (Jr.); LB Dylan Grossel (Sr.)
Key losses: S Cory Bergan
Outlook: With plenty of experience back and Desert Pines and Mojave moving up to Class 4A, the Trojans could compete for the Sunset League title.
Pahrump was solid offensively last season, scoring 30 or more points five times.
Velazquez was a first-team All-Southern Region selection last season, and should team with Brown to give Pahrump a solid one-two punch on offense, especially with experienced linemen Trieb and Bunker leading the way.
Defensively, the Trojans will look to improve after allowing an average of 25.1 points.
“The boys are hungry,” Clayton said.
