Roundup: Coronado defeats defending state champion Shadow Ridge

Sasha Bolla had 15 kills on Wednesday as Coronado’s girls volleyball team earned a 25-21, 25-18, 24-26, 26-24 home victory over defending Class 4A state champion Shadow Ridge.

McCallister Gayle had 10 kills and three blocks, and Cassandra Smits-Van Oyen had 38 assists, three aces, three blocks and 13 digs for the Cougars.

Morenike Ajayi added seven aces and 12 digs for Coronado.

Makayla Alia led Shadow Ridge with 35 assists. Jaden Jones and Alysha Smith added nine and eight kills, respectively.

Rancho 3, Basic 0 — At Rancho, Jan Duhaylungsod had six kills, 17 assists, six aces and 12 digs as the Rams beat the Wolves, 25-23, 25-11, 25-20.

Angelyne Berkedal added 11 kills for Rancho, and Mia Suzuki had three aces and 16 digs for the Rams.

Angelina Dean led Basic with nine kills, and teammate Keona Richardson had two kills and three blocks.

Faith Lutheran 3, Liberty 0 — At Liberty, Kyrie Lorfing had 20 assists and 14 digs in the Crusaders’ 25-19, 25-8, 25-14 win over the Patriots.

Hailey Carroll had 11 kills and five aces for Faith Lutheran, and Lauren Tomita had 11 digs and four aces.

Mojave 3, Cheyenne 0 — At Mojave, Chania Scott had 10 kills to lead the Rattlers to a 25-19, 27-25, 27-25 victory over the Desert Shields.

Aqueelah Muhammad added 33 assists for Mojave.

Angel Buchanan had seven aces for Cheyenne.

Las Vegas 3, Valley 0 — At Las Vegas High, Brooklyn Stone had 17 assists, nine aces, eight digs and two kills to lead the Wildcats to a 25-8-25-2, 25-10 victory over the Vikings.

Skyla Faught chipped in with eight kills, seven aces and three digs for Las Vegas.

Nicole Velez had 13 digs and three aces, Victoria Barney added seven kills and three digs, and Shaunie Mangum supplied five assists, three digs and two aces for the Wildcats.

Valley’s Andrea Munguia had four assists, and Isabel Lopez-Figueroa and Krystal Carter each had two kills for the Vikings.

Sierra Vista 3, Bonanza 0 — At Sierra Vista, Matlyn Ua had 15 assists, and Caleyse Saunders had nine kills as the Mountain Lions took care of the Bengals, 25-9, 25-21, 25-12.

Nicole Degro notched 14 assists, and Melissa Fales had six kills for Bonanza.

Adelson School 3, Word of Life 0 — At Adelson School, Dana Bluevise had seven kills and seven aces in a 25-7, 25-12, 25-23 victory over the Eagles.

Elizabeth Gutierrez added seven kills and four aces, and teammate Taylor King had five kills for the Lions.

Alyssa Warren led Word of Life with two assists and two aces.
