Class 3A: Pahrump Valley edges Virgin Valley

Cyle Havel struck out five of the six batters he faced Wednesday to secure Pahrump Valley’s 6-5 home victory over Virgin Valley in the Class 3A Southern Region tournament.

Chase McDaniel and Tyler Floyd each supplied two RBIs for the Trojans, who used a five-run fifth inning to edge the Bulldogs.

Bradda Costa tossed five solid innings to earn the win. Willie Lucas added two hits and an RBI for Pahrump (18-13-1), which hosts Boulder City (19-11-1) at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Jayden Perkins supplied two hits, two runs and two RBIs, and Kaden Peterson had an RBI double to pace Virgin Valley (18-8-1), which hosts Desert Pines (21-9) in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Boulder City 9, Chaparral 8 — At Boulder City, Chafton Temple had a double and three RBIs as the Eagles held off the Cowboys.

Rhett Armstrong was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Joey Giunta had a solo homer for Boulder City, which scored seven runs in the bottom of the first.

Giunta threw two scoreless innings of relief to get a save.

Cannon Greene went 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs for Chaparral. Derek Martinez was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Cowboys (24-7), who host Tech (17-12) in an elimination game at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Tech 22, Western 5 — At Western, Gabe Kermode went 2-for-5 with a grand slam, five RBIs and three runs as the Roadrunners raced past the Warriors in an elimination game.

Jason Collingbourne was 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, four runs and three RBIs, and Sean Jones was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs for Tech. Jose Leon was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI as the Roadrunners’ Nos. 2-5 hitters combined to go 11-for-17 with 10 runs and 15 RBIs.

Henry Ceballos was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Adrian Oles was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and two runs for Western (9-17).

Desert Pines 8, Mojave 2 — At Desert Pines, Juan Castaneda tossed a six-hitter and allowed only one earned run while striking out five as the Jaguars topped the Rattlers in an elimination game.

Raymond Minero was 2-for-2 with a double and a run, and Salvador Becerra was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Desert Pines. Fernando Fuentes was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Jaguars.

Mike Cianci was 3-for-3 with a double for Mojave (7-22).
