Roundup: Arbor View’s Hazen Newman wins Northwest League match

Arbor View’s Hazen Newman shot 4-under-par 68 at Paiute on Tuesday to earn medalist honors in a Northwest League match.

Newman had seven birdies in his round, including two stretches of three birdies in a four-hole span, and finished three strokes ahead of teammate Cameron Gambini and Centennial’s Cole Thompson.

Palo Verde’s Michael Salerno and Faith Lutheran teammates Aidan Goldstein and Nick Nigro tied for fourth place with rounds of 72.

Faith Lutheran won the team competition with a score of 293. Palo Verde was second at 311, and Arbor View was third at 316.

Eldorado’s Manganello tops Northeast field

At Las Vegas Golf Club, Eldorado’s Matt Manganello carded a 4-under 68 to earn medalist honors in a Northeast League match.

Manganello birdied five holes on the back nine to pull away from the field. Las Vegas High’s Nic Jensen was second with a 75.

Canyon Springs’ Dominic David was third with a 78, and Rancho’s Paul Nawrocki took fourth with a 79.

Rancho won the team competition with a score of 347. Las Vegas shot 372 and was the only other school to post a team score.

Coronado defeats Bishop Gorman

At Bear’s Best, Dylan Fritz shot 2-under 34 to lead Coronado to a 146-152 win over Bishop Gorman.

Benjamin Sawaia added a 36, and Brett Sodetz and Joey Dotta each shot 38 for the Cougars.

Skyler Ngo led the Gaels with a 35, and teammate Aarjav Patel shot 38. Playing as a non-scoring golfer, Gorman’s Joseph Williams shot 37.
