Roundup: James Cobian leads Chaparral in to Cowboy Classic title game

James Cobian was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs to lead Chaparral’s baseball team to a 5-3 home win over Clark in the Cowboy Classic semifinals.

Chaparral will host Tech at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the championship game.

Jacob Mauro doubled to lead off the sixth, then courtesy runner Dennis Perez and Robert O’Connor scored the go-ahead runs on Cobian’s hit.

Julio Hernandez had a double for Clark.

Tech 3, Desert Pines 2 — At Tech, Jose Leon allowed two unearned runs in the four innings, and Gabe Kermode picked up the three-inning save to lead the Roadrunners over the Jaguars in the other semifinal.

Sean Morgan had a double, run and RBI for the Roadrunners, who scoed all their runs in the fifth after the Jaguars put up two in the fourth.

Steven Laureano had a complete game for Desert Pines with 10 strikeouts.

Canyon Springs 6, Valley 1 — At Del Sol, Aiden Moriarty went the distance, allowing one run and four hits while striking out five, to power the Pioneers over the Vikings in the Cowboy Classic.

Martin Blake double, tripled and scored twice for the Pioneers, and Trevor Berkemeyer hit a double.

Gatlin Hardinam scored Valley’s run.

Virgin Valley 9, Western 2 — At Tech, Easton Jensen’s double was the Bulldogs’ only hit, but they rolled past the Warriors in five innings at the Cowboy Classic.

Dillan Fuqua pitched all five innings for Virgin Valley, and did not allow an earned run.

Dallan Tanner had three walks and scored a run for the Bulldogs, and Cade Anderson and Jensen each scored twice.

Mojave 10, Lincoln County 9 — At Chaparral, the Rattlers scored three runs in the top of the sixth to break a 7-7 tie and they held off the Lynx.

Caleb Forepaugh went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs, and Nataneal Sauceda was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run for Mojave.

Kobe Kelly went 3-for-4 with a double, four runs and two RBIs, and Kobe Walker was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, four RBIs and a run for Lincoln County.

Grizzly Invitational

Foothill 11, Bonanza 9 — At Bonanza, Tyler Kala was 2-for-4 with four RBIs to help the Falcons hold on and beat the Bengals in the Grizzly Invitational.

Andrew Hauck had a double, two RBIs and two runs for the Falcons, and Chayse Parenteau doubled.

Yankiel Gonzalez had three RBIs for the Bengals, who trailed 10-1 after the top of the third, but brought the game within one run after the sixth.

Bonanza 4, Legacy 2 — At Bonanza, the Bengals scored four runs in the first en route to the win over the Longhorns.

Brandon Rivera was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Orbien Hernandez-Silva was 2-for-3 with a double for Bonanza.

Evan Walling allowed two runs on four hits in five innings to get the win. He struck out seven with two walks.

Jordan Crawford was 1-for-3 with a double and a run, and Noah Lomeli went 1-for-4 with a triple, a run and an RBI for Legacy.

Spring Valley 18, Pahrump Valley 3 — At Spring Valley, Mitchell Otis went 2-for-3 with a double, a homer and two RBIs as the Grizzlies rolled to the five-inning victory over the Trojans.

Chase Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBIs, and Kade Higgins went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs for Spring Valley.

Erik Dulittle was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Grizzlies.

Boulder City 4, Spring Valley 3 — At Spring Valley, the Eagles scored three runs in the top of the sixth to top the Grizzlies.

Anthony Pacifico’s two-run single broke a 2-2 tie for the Eagles.

Nolan Herr threw four scoreless innings of relief to get the win. He also went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Donovan Souder was 2-for-3 with a double for Spring Valley, and teammate Jonathan Bakken doubled and drove in two run.

Boulder City 12, Pahrump Valley 2 — At Spring Valley, Chafton Temple went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs to help the Eagles to the six-inning win over the Trojans.

Joseph Giunta went 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, and Rhett Armstrong, Pacifico, Travis Hungerford and Herr each added two hits for Boulder City.

Armstrong, Hungerford and Troy Connell each drove in two runs for the Eagles.

Lions Tournament

Desert Oasis 9, Montgomery (Calif.) 2 — At San Diego, Aaron Roberts homered and had three RBIs as the Diamondbacks took down the Aztecs.

Josh Sharman went the distance on the mound for Desert Oasis.

Stephen Lasseigne and Steven Giatti each went 3-for-4 for Desert Oasis, and Cole Schaefer had a double.

Palo Verde 11, Del Oro (Calif.) 4 — At San Diego, Tyler Kim went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs to power the Panthers over the Golden Eagles.

Jaret Godman went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and an RBI, and Jacob Godman and Nate Bartlett each added two hits and an RBI for Palo Verde.

E.J. Arnold went 2-for-3 with a double, and Noah Williamson drove in two runs for the Panthers.

Vista (Calif.) 7, Green Valley 1 — At Vista, California, Scott Gruber doubled in the Gators’ loss to the Panthers in the Lions Tournament.

Josh George scored Green Valley’s run.

Lions Tournament

Bishop Gorman 4, Rancho Bernardo (Calif.) 1 — At San Diego, Connor O’Shea hit a two-run double in the top of the fifth to break a scoreless tie as the Gaels beat the Broncos.

Gorman added a run on a wild pitch and another on an RBI triple by Max Prescott to make it 4-0.

Dutch Landis allowed a run on two hits in 5⅔ innings to get the win. He struck out seven and walked three.

Tyler Curtis fanned three in 1⅓ innings of hitless relief to get a save.

Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.) 8, Silverado 0 — At El Cajon, California, the Skyhawks managed just one hit in a shutout loss to the Knights.

Kyle Ashworth hit a lead-off home run for Foothill-Santa Ana, and starter Chad Castillo pitched five strong innings.

Caleb Hubbard singled for Silverado.

Sunrise Mountain 6, Army-Navy (Calif.) 0 — At San Diego, Brian Ruiz tossed a complete game shutout and struck out 16 batters as the Miners defeated the Warriors.

Ruiz only allowed one hit and he also went 2-for-3 with a double at the plate.

Miners’ Cecil Hall went 2-for-4 and Edgar Garcia went 1-for-4 with a triple.

Rancho 10, Brawley Union (Calif.) 9 — At San Diego, Jimmy Gamboa was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs, and the Rams held off a late rally to beat the Wildcats.

Matthew Baughn was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, and Chayse Baker went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Rancho.

National Classic

Coronado 15, Florida Christian (Fla.) 2 — At Bradenton, Florida, Jake McLean had two hits and four RBIs to lead the Cougars to the win in the National Classic.

Braden Ewing added two hits and three RBIs, and teammate Taylor Darden drove in two runs for Coronado.
