3A Flag Football: Nikita Eskelsen sends Virgin Valley to state title game

Nikita Eskelsen had 10 carries for 107 yards and three touchdowns Tuesday to help Virgin Valley’s flag football team rush by Tech 26-0 at home, and into the Class 3A state championship game.

The state title game will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Cimarron-Memorial. It sets up a rematch of last year’s state championship, where Virgin Valley fell to Cheyenne, 7-0.

Katie Zuniga also had a rushing touchdown for the Bulldogs (17-3), who stormed to a 20-0 halftime lead.

Markell Ludvigson had seven tackles for the Bulldogs, and Makenzie Leishman and Madison Cheney each had six tackles. Cheney also added a sack.

Virgin Valley’s Kallie Graves completed 13 of her 19 passes for 165 yards.

Cheyenne 22, Del Sol 19 — At Cheyenne, the Desert Shields defeated the Dragons in the other semifinal.

The Desert Shields (15-4) advance to their straight state championship game. They won last year, and were the runners-up in 2016.
