Roundup: Moapa Valley holds of Cheyenne to begin postseason run

Strong doubles play helped Moapa Valley’s girls tennis team earn an 11-7 home victory over Cheyenne in the first round of the Class 3A Southern Region tennis tournament Saturday morning.

Lillian Leavitt and Morgan Aikele were 3-0 in doubles for the Pirates, as were Courtney Zerkle and Amber Ables.

Foothill 13, Silverado 5 — At Foothill, Isabelle Hanon was 2-0 in singles play to lead the Falcons to victory over Silverado in the first round of the Sunrise Region tournament.

Emma Grant and Katelyn Woodworth were 2-0 in doubles for Foothill.

Desert Pines 15, Tech 3 — At Desert tines, Brie Perkins, Evelin Beltran and Wislande Olibrice all posted 2-0 singles marks to lift the Jaguars to a win over Tech in the first round of the Class 3A Southern Region tournament.

Veronica Palacios and Rebecca Pierce were 2-0 in doubles for Desert Pines.

Green Valley 13, Basic 5 — At Green Valley, the Gators coasted to a victory over Basic in the first round of the Sunrise Regional tournament.

Coronado 18, Las Vegas 0 — At Coronado, the Cougars shut out Las Vegas in the first round of the Sunrise Region tournament.
